As independent pharmacy owners, sometimes we can stay too much in our own little "bubble". NCPA convention breaks you out of the bubble and allows you to share and gain knowledge from your fellow pharmacists."

Convention Programming
Are you a new owner concerned about potential legal issues? Or do worries about audits keep you up at night? If you answered yes, be sure to include these sessions in your educational itinerary.

What IF! Legal Issues for New Owners
Saturday, October 23
2:30 pm - 4 pm
In the words of Benjamin Franklin—"an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" good legal advice on issues ranging from the DEA to dispensing errors can help protect you and your business from "what if?" The program will also give sound advice on steps to take when you are entering into contracts—whether they are junior partnership agreements, employment agreements, leases for your store, contracts for equipment, buy/sell agreements or a host of other issues, taking care to make sure that your business is taken care of up front is prevention that Ben would be proud of for business operation in today's complex health care environment.
Speaker: James R. Schiffer, RPh, JD, New York, New York

Oh Boy—Another Medicare Audit
Sunday, October 24
7:30 am - 9 am
ZPIC, CERT, RAC ... whatever acronym you use they all spell trouble. With CMS under increasing pressure to safeguard the Medicare Trust Fund their budget has been boosted for the specific purpose of finding fraud. What that means is that we are seeing more extensive audits—lots more extensive audits and this trend is likely to continue. This program will bring you up to date on the latest Medicare Audit types and trends. What you can expect during an audit and what audit requirements are for each type of audit.
Speaker: Heather Benzi, Senior Vice President, Business Development, OmniSYS, LLC, Greenville, Texas

Third Party Trends: New Wrinkles to Expect During an Audit Tuesday, October 26
2:30 pm - 4 pm
Every pharmacy owner knows the story... you receive an audit notification, PBM comes in to your pharmacy, they leave with lots of your money. Recent trends have shown PBMs leaving with more pharmacy money than ever. How do you change the story? This session will give you the information and tools that you need to ensure that your business is minimally affected by third party audits.
Speaker: Mark Jacobs, RPh, PAAS National, Stoughton, Wisconsin
