Senior Director, State Government Affairs

National professional association representing community pharmacies seeks a Senior Director of State Government Affairs. Responsible for executing the association's state government affairs strategy, monitoring and analyzing state legislation and regulation that affects community pharmacy; developing model legislation and other resources on priority issues; building relationships with state policymakers and political organizations representing state elected officials; working with state-level industry partners; limited congressional-level advocacy as needed and managing and developing direct reports . Knowledge of state government, Medicaid, health care, insurance industry and pharmacy preferred. State lobbying background desired. Some travel required, advanced degree preferred.

Associate Director, Public Affairs

Alexandria health care association (near King Street Metro) seeks experienced media relations professional to serve as associate director, public affairs.

Responsible for overseeing communications to the media, including preparing op-eds and news releases; cultivating and managing relationships with reporters; managing the flow of organizational perspective to the media and monitoring/measuring media mentions of issues important to the organization; serving as a media spokesperson and responding to media inquiries; detecting public relations issues as they emerge and addressing them promptly; and serving as member of organization’s social media team.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate exceptional writing, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. Previous media relations experience in trade association, corporate public affairs agency, federal agency or congressional office REQUIRED. Familiarity with health care policy preferred.
