What led you to a career in independent community pharmacy?
I grew up as a migrant worker in the fields of California and my mother always stressed the importance of education. I knew that pharmacy would help me provide for my family and allow me to help those in need.
What makes your pharmacy standout from the competition?
Technology, such as Robot and Script Pro, accuracy and efficiency. We have an accredited Diabetes Self Management Education Program, and multiple (7) locations.
What are your biggest challenges?
The biggest challenge is PBM reimbursement. PBMs have aggressively acquired the majority of the healthcare market and have the leverage to offer take it or leave it contracts.
Describe a recent, rewarding experience with a patient:
Our first patient to complete the Diabetes Self Management Education program reduced her glucose and cholesterol reading; eliminated 2 of 12 prescriptions and her A1C dropped a whole point.
