Highlighting the important role independent community pharmacists play in our national healthcare system.
Pharmacist: Sandra Thornbury
Pharmacy name: Care More Pharmacy
City, State: Dorton, KY
Pharmacist's years of service: 19 years
What led you to a career in independent community pharmacy?
I love the intimate interaction that occurs with my patients because they are an integral part of the Dorton community and my business.
What makes your pharmacy standout from the competition?
Our name says it all! I truly believe we go the extra mile for our patients. It is reflected in the high level of service we provide.
What are your biggest challenges?
Trying to discern who are legitimate patients and who may be seekers or sellers. In an area where prescription drug abuse is rampant, it is important to not be part of the problem.
Describe a recent, rewarding experience with a patient:
After the death of an elderly patient, the wife brought in several bags of his prescription medication for disposal. We were able to take back the medications and directed her to White Pike which destroyed the controlled substances.
How has NCPA helped your business?
I have worked with NCPA and their Drug Take Back Program [Dispose My Meds]. This program has helped me educate my community about the importance of proper drug disposal and improving the environment.
