Highlighting the important role independent community pharmacists play in our national healthcare system.

Pharmacist's years of service: 18 Years with this company (30 years as a pharmacist)
What led you to a career in independent community pharmacy?
I started working in an independent pharmacy in high school (current owner is an NCPA member!) I've always enjoyed getting to know our customers, being part of their healthcare team, and making a difference in their lives.
What makes your pharmacy standout from the competition?
Davidson Drugs has been in business for 55 years and currently has three locations. We strive to be the best pharmacy in customer service.
In addition to a great pharmacy team, we have a beautiful gift department, postal sub-station, and DME department.
What are your biggest challenges?
Poor profit margins, insurance issues and regulatory changes have made it more difficult to manage and independent pharmacy. We are hoping for changes in PBM transparency and mail order mandates in FL, and appreciate NCPA's advocacy in these areas.
Describe a recent, rewarding experience with a patient:
After participating in a pilot adherence program, we were able to identify a longtime patient that was struggling with her medications. Enrolling her in our synchronized refill program has allowed her to continue to administer her own medications.
How has NCPA helped your business?
NCPA has allowed us to make a change in thinking, from customer to patient. We just started the Simplify My Meds program and will be implementing a compliance packaging program. We are collaborating with prescribers to improve adherence and decrease hospital readmissions.
