Diabetes Accreditation Standards-Practical Applications (DASPA)


DASPA is a program designed specifically to expand patient access to diabetes management while offering community pharmacies a path to reimbursement for the provision of this service.

Establishing an accredited diabetes education program through a community pharmacy can be a rewarding venture for the pharmacist, both financially and professionally. DASPA offers community pharmacists training to expand their role into diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T), which is eligible for payment by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) is one of two entities approved to accredit a pharmacy practice to receive payment by CMS for the provision of diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T). NCPA is pleased to partner with AADE to bring pharmacists a comprehensive program that prepares your practice to provide DSME/T.

The DASPA program includes an online AND live component. Attendees are required to complete the NCPA live ($895) and AADE online ($345) sections to complete DASPA training. (Note: Pharmacists serving as diabetes education program instructors must provide evidence during the application process that their continuing education is diabetes-specific, diabetes-related, and/or behavior change self- management education strategies-specific. These two programs satisfy the 15 hours of continuing education on an annual basis required to apply for AADE facility accreditation.)

The live DASPA program is newly refocused with an increased concentration on the tactics for moving your pharmacy toward accreditation. New case studies and exercises will give you hands-on experience and expert advice on billing, program set-up, successful operations, patient outreach and more. After attending this accreditation "prep" course, you will possess all of the tools and information you need to pursue accreditation for your pharmacy.

CE Credit Information

alt Completion of the live DASPA program will provide the participant with 9.75 ACPE continuing pharmacy education contact hours (.975 CEUs) in pharmacy education. A statement of credit will be issued upon completion. NCPA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.
