Letter to Los Angeles Times on Drug Pricing

To the Editor,

A recent article examining pharmacies' generic drug prices lacked any reference to California's 2,126 independent community pharmacies ("Disparity in generic drug prices is a bitter pill to swallow").

Independent pharmacies have been found to be price competitive in national analyses conducted by Consumer Reports and others, as well as in regional surveys conducted by news outlets. These pricing surveys often indicate that independents offer lower prices than national chain pharmacies.

Moreover, consumers rate independent community pharmacies higher in customer satisfaction than other pharmacy options. And, of course, choosing a locally owned business keeps more revenue in your community.

It's unfortunate that this article omitted consideration of independent community pharmacies. To find one or learn more go to www.ncpanet.org.
