Future Pharmacy Owners Win Free Registration to NCPA Annual Convention and Trade Exposition

SAN DIEGO (October 12, 2012) –Sponsored by McKesson, RxOwnership, 33 students from 27 pharmacy schools in 20 states received complimentary registration to the NCPA Annual Convention and Trade Exposition in San Diego, Calif., October 13-17, 2012 as a part of NCPA's Student Affairs mission to encourage, foster, and recognize an interest in independent community pharmacy ownership. A survey was conducted among NCPA student members to determine the winners. All survey participants were entered to win complimentary registration to the NCPA Annual Convention and winners were chosen at random. According to the survey results, nearly two thirds of pharmacy students surveyed are interested in owning a community pharmacy after graduation.

The national survey of some 120 NCPA student members was conducted to gauge interest in becoming a future pharmacy owner and in attending the NCPA 114th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition. In addition to sponsoring the 33 student registrations, McKesson is also sponsoring the Future Pharmacists Network event on Saturday, October 13 at 5:30 pm in the San Diego Convention Center, Ballroom 6E, Level 2. The Future Pharmacists Network event is designed to give NCPA student members the opportunity to connect with peers and experienced ownership advisors to learn about pharmacy ownership and help them with their future pharmacy goals.

According to one NCPA student member in response to a question about the benefits of attending the NCPA annual meeting, "Attending NCPA will give me the chance to attain the knowledge necessary to both maintain and grow a pharmacy business. NCPA does an amazing job putting the pieces in place to allow students to network with other business owners as well as expose them to the world of pharmacy. The expo and lectures that are given are first class and there is no shortage of knowledge to be had. I would like to attend NCPA in hopes to help myself build a foundation from which to purchase my pharmacy."

"Today's pharmacy students are some of the best and brightest I've ever seen," said Lonny Wilson, DPh, NCPA president and pharmacy owner in Oklahoma City. "The feedback we received from this survey furthers my belief that these students will be the hardworking, dedicated pharmacy owners our profession needs to thrive. We are proud to partner with McKesson to help them attend the NCPA Annual Convention to help them become those successful owners of the future."

"McKesson RxOwnership is proud to partner with NCPA to support the future of pharmacy ownership by giving students the knowledge and tools to map out their future," said Bob Graul, national VP, McKesson RxOwnership. "Many recent pharmacy graduates are interested in independent pharmacy ownership because they want the ability to decide how they would like to run a pharmacy and tailor its services to meet the needs of their customers and community. Ultimately, this gives them the ability to do what community pharmacists do best—focus on patient care."

McKesson's RxOwnership® program is dedicated to providing independent pharmacy owners, prospective owners and pharmacy students with tools to help them map out their future. In the past year, RxOwnership has been involved in more than 450 pharmacy buy, sell or transfer deals and supported nearly 300 start ups.
