Kirk Hayes Awarded Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award by NCPA

Kirk Hayes, of Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company in Algona, Iowa, was honored as the recipient of the NCPA 2011 Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) during its 113th Annual Convention and Trade Exposition held here October 8-12.

Hayes joined Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company in 1963 (then Druggist Mutual Insurance Company) as an underwriter and was subsequently elected Vice President in 1967; served as President and Treasurer from 1975-2001; and Chairman, CEO and Treasurer from 2001-2003. He presently serves as Chairman of the Board of Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company and its affiliate, the Pharmacists Life Insurance Company.

"Kirk has been on the forefront of making sure Pharmacists Mutual fulfills its mission statement of 'helping our customers attain their financial peace of mind', and is a worthy recipient of the NCPA 2011 Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award," said NCPA President and Waterloo, Iowa pharmacy owner, Robert J. Greenwood, RPh. "His efforts over nearly 50 years have allowed countless aspiring independent community pharmacy owners to realize their dreams, because he understands their needs and the valuable health care services they provide patients."

In 1967 he received his CPCU designation and subsequently completed the Associate in Risk Management Program. During his career, he has served as Director for the Mutual Insurance Association of Iowa, Chair of the Property Loss Research Bureau, Chair of the American Association of Insurance Services Executive Board, Director of the Iowa Insurance Institute, a member of NAMIC Regulatory Steering Committee, and Chair of the Alliance of American Insurers. As an active member of his community, he is currently a director of the Kossuth County Hospital Foundation and the Algona Community School Foundation. In 2003, he received the Iowa Pharmacy Association Appreciation Award to recognize his support of organized pharmacy in the state of Iowa.
