Pharmacists are Encouraged to REACT During 4th Annual "Protect Your Pharmacy Week"
Alexandria, Va. - April 18, 2011
The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), Purdue Pharma L.P. (creator of RxPATROL®), and their partners recognize April 18-22 as the fourth annual "Protect Your Pharmacy Week." The week is a reflection of the Protect Your Pharmacy Now! initiative begun in 2008 by the partnering organizations to encourage pharmacists to protect their stores, staff, and patients against pharmacy crimes, including prescription drug robbery and thefts.
This year introduces a new theme as NCPA and its partners encourage pharmacists to make a plan to REACT. The acronym REACT represents some highly recommended tips from RxPATROL for community pharmacists to remember in the case of a crime against a pharmacy:
"NCPA and its partners developed the Protect Your Pharmacy Now! initiative in 2008 to help pharmacy owners proactively prepare to keep pharmacies a place of safe and effective health care," said Robert J. Greenwood, RPh, NCPA President and Waterloo, Iowa pharmacy owner. "We are proud to continue the program with additional tools and resources to help pharmacists effectively REACT in the case of a crime against their stores."
As recent articles in The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and The Bradenton (Florida) Herald illustrate, crime against pharmacy is a continuing problem. NCPA members can go to the NCPA website to learn more about this program and access information and discounts on security equipment, safes, alarms and other resources to help improve pharmacy safety and security.
This year, new benefits to NCPA members include:
In addition, NCPA members can receive free ceiling mobiles to draw attention to security cameras in their store, links to RxPATROL® training videos on pharmacy crime, discounts on closed-circuit TV cameras, recorders, and surveillance equipment, and safety and security tips from law enforcement professionals.
"Purdue Pharma is a proud partner with the National Community Pharmacist Association in providing to their members the RxPATROL® security height decals featuring the REACT reminder above to help pharmacists, staff and patients be better witnesses in the event of a robbery," said Rick Zenuch, Director of Purdue's Law Enforcement Liaison and Education program. "Through RxPATROL®, Purdue is helping law enforcement solve crimes and helping pharmacy owners protect their businesses and customers."
Purdue Pharma created RxPATROL®, a national database that tracks, analyzes and provides information on pharmacy crime to law enforcement and pharmacies through RxPATROL®, Purdue is partnering with Crime Stoppers and other community anti-crime programs to offer rewards for information leading to arrests for pharmacy crime. Tips can be made anonymously and have led to more than 100 arrests since the program's inception. More information about the program can be found at www.rxpatrol.org.
Purdue Pharma L.P. and its associated U.S. companies are privately-held pharmaceutical companies known for pioneering research on persistent pain.
