As we all know, it takes political contributions to be successful in Congress. We also know we are in a fight for our survival. For community pharmacy to really make its voice heard in Washington, NCPA’s Political Action Committee, NCPAPAC, needs your support now more than ever.
Our goal is achievable, but it takes you to make it happen. All that’s needed is $50 a month. Think of it as taking your business out to dinner. Isn’t your business worth the cost of one inexpensive dinner each month? Added together with your fellow pharmacists’ contributions, your $50 monthly contribution could make us one of the 50 most powerful political organizations on Capitol Hill.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that someone else will make a contribution for you. The future of your pharmacy depends on your participation. If just 1,000 pharmacists will do this, our organization’s clout will grow exponentially.
- First national pharmacy PAC
- First pharmacy PAC to be included in the Top 50 Trade Association PACs
- First pharmacy PAC to raise $225,000 in a two-year cycle
- First pharmacy PAC to hold a major event at a national association convention
- First national pharmacy PAC to hold a fundraising event featuring members of the House and Senate
The NCPAPAC motto rings true today: "Get into politics or get out of pharmacy." Here are just some of the reasons: PBM regulation, the Bush administration’s discount card, Medicaid cuts, and negotiating rights for pharmacists and other independent health care providers.

What is the money used for/what does NCPAPAC do? NCPAPAC makes campaign contributions to our friends and champions in Congress. Contributions are also used to build bridges to those Leaders and Members of Congress whose support we need. Some of our friends in Congress will need over a million dollars to get re-elected, and will need our help…and we can’t help them without your support. Whatever you can give will be appreciated, but please give as much as possible.
Why should I contribute to NCPAPAC? Every association in Washington needs PAC dollars to be effective advocates of their members. PAC dollars cannot come from membership dues or other revenue. NCPAPAC can only be made strong through the individual support of pharmacists like us. A strong PAC will also help minimize the impact that PBMs have in Washington.
Is it tax deductible? Contributions are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. Also, corporate contributions are prohibited, so the money has to come from your personal funds. Federal law also requires NCPA to report the name, mailing address, occupation and employer of each individual who contributes more than $200 in an election cycle. You can give up to $5000 to NCPAPAC in a calendar year.
Why must the contribution be from personal funds? Corporate contributions (operating funds from an incorporated entity) are prohibited by federal law. If you would like to make a contribution from corporate funds, you may contribute to the NCPA Legislative Defense Fund (LDF). There are no limits on contributions to the LDF. Funds are used to support our advocacy efforts across the country, but cannot be used for candidate contributions.
What are the benefits of contributing? Our PAC motto for years has been “Get into politics, or get out of pharmacy!” Government has a huge impact on our profession and our business and if we don’t have a seat at the table, we put both at risk.
