NIPCO Offers Diabetes, Osteoporosis Care Programming, Discussion Roundtables, And New Affiliate Program At NCPA Convention Alexandria, Virginia - October 15, 2002 Pharmacists attending the National Community Pharmacists Association’s (NCPA) 104th Annual Convention beginning this week in Nashville, Tennessee will have an opportunity to enhance their pharmacist care and disease management skills through programming offered by the National Institute for Pharmacist Care Outcomes (NIPCO), the disease management education arm of NCPA.
The NIPCO-accredited NCPA Diabetes Care Certificate Program will be offered Friday, October 18, through Saturday, October 19. Participants will learn how to implement a new niche market in diabetes care by focusing on how to better understand and manage a patient with this complex and chronic condition.
Pharmacists will become familiar with the following topics: disease characteristics of diabetes, methods of treatment ranging from diet to medication, insulin pattern management, administration devices, mixing and administration techniques, and diabetes care technology.
Also discussed will be techniques for helping patients manage their disease, interpersonal aspects relating to patient compliance and education, patient assessment including diabetes foot assessment, essential documentation of care, and diabetes care billing methods/options.
Program registration is $89, plus Convention registration. Eli Lilly and Company supports the diabetes program.
The Merck-supported, NIPCO-accredited NCPA Osteoporosis Care Certificate Program will be offered Friday, October 18, through Saturday, October 19.
Pharmacists will learn how to how to manage patients at risk for osteoporosis or help manage patients who have already developed the disease. The program will cover pathophysiology/diagnosis and clinical presentation, prevention strategies, drug therapy, therapeutic considerations and patient care issues.
Also covered will be pharmacy-based bone mineral density testing, marketing tips, legal issues, device overview and demonstration, and pharmacist reimbursement.
Program registration is $89, plus Convention registration.
The NIPCO Discussion Roundtables will be held on Monday, October 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This program is open to all NCPA Convention registrants.
Attendees will meet one-on-one with a guest discussion leader and receive targeted information on pharmacy diversification, disease management, and wellness niches. Roundtable topics include: diabetes care, lipid management, immunization opportunities, biotechnology specialty products, asthma management, nutrition and weight management, billing for pharmacy services and more.
Lastly, NIPCO has created a new Affiliate Program, which will debut at NCPA’s Convention. The program offers specialized networking and mentoring opportunities and practical workplace services. Benefits of the Affiliate Program include Internet-based services that are accessed at . Community pharmacists will be able to join the Affiliate Program by signing up at the NCPA booth.
