First presented in 2004, the Spirit of Independence Award is given to individuals or organizations that have gone above and beyond the norm in their support of independent community pharmacy and NCPA. The inaugural recipients of the award were the members of the Community Care RxSM board of directors.
The 2005 recipients are:

“These organizations are being recognized with NCPA’s 2005 Spirit of Independence Award for going the extra mile in support of NCPA and independent pharmacy,” said Bruce Roberts, R.Ph., NCPA executive vice president and CEO. “These organizations have expressed a strong commitment to the future of independent pharmacy by supporting the continued growth of NCPA membership through integration of NCPA membership dues into their regular billing and rebate structures. The leadership of each of these organizations is to be commended for supporting a unified voice for the independent pharmacy sector.”
The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) represents the nation’s community pharmacists, including the owners of more than 24,000 pharmacies. The nation’s independent pharmacies, independent pharmacy franchises, and independent chains represent an $84 billion marketplace, dispensing nearly half of the nation's retail prescription medicines.
