Community pharmacies and other small businesses are targets for criminals who are out to profit from stolen merchandise, medical identities or credit cards. When pharmacy owners identify weaknesses such as building and pharmacy access, in-store Wi-Fi, surveillance camera blind spots and handling of protected health information they can take steps to be a smaller target.

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician Learning Objectives:

  1. Plan enhancements to current physical security measures to improve security and be perceived as a tougher target.
  2. Plan enhancements to current technical and cyber security measures to improve data security and reduce liability if breached.
  3. Illustrate the pros and cons of hosting a wireless internet connection (Wi-Fi) in a pharmacy and steps to improve security if used.
