NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 16, 2016)
In recognition of his commitment to improving medication adherence, Joshua Jones, PharmD, President of Integrity Pharmacy in Springfield, Mo., was honored with the 2016 NCPA Innovation Center Outstanding Adherence Practitioner Award, which is sponsored by Mirixa at the NCPA 2016 Annual Convention held from Oct. 15 - 19.
After graduating from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2007, Jones began working with the founders of Integrity Pharmacy to enhance medication adherence in the home care population. The company, operating an enhanced medication synchronization model, helps homebound seniors improve adherence by customizing an in-home medication management system. Integrity Pharmacy provides patients with individualized monthly packets—also known as CAREpacks®—with each day's medications separated for easy use. Medication nurse consultants conduct home visits to learn about the patient's medication needs, ensure refills are synchronized for the same day each month, and coordinate monthly check-in calls with the patient to address any changes in therapy. Integrity Pharmacy's mission is to enable patients, particularly those with advanced conditions, to effectively manage their medications so they are able to stay in their homes as long as possible. Over the last eight years, the company has grown to 44 employees and serves patients throughout Missouri.
"Dr. Jones' groundbreaking efforts to help seniors maximize their medication regimens makes him a very deserving recipient of this year's NCPA Innovation Center Outstanding Adherence Practitioner Award," said NCPA President Brad Arthur, RPh. "With an estimated $290 billion wasted annually on the improper use of medications in the United States, there is a pressing need to find better approaches to drive adherence. Jones' laser-like focus on medication synchronization and reconciliation in home care is making a real difference that only grows with each passing year."
As the nation's leading medication therapy management provider, Mirixa applauds the work of Dr. Jones for developing a personalized medication management system which helps pharmacists synchronize medications.
"The value of medication adherence cannot be overstated," says Frank Harvey, RPh, MBA, CEO of Mirixa. "The entire health care industry recognizes the importance of medication adherence. Community pharmacy plays a critical role in improving medication adherence. Community pharmacy's efforts result in a profound positive impact on patients' overall health and wellness. Mirixa is proud to support the recognition of these efforts."
