The Pharmacist Services Technical Advisory Coalition (PSTAC) was founded in 2002 to improve the coding infrastructure necessary to support billing for pharmacists' professional services. The Coalition works to provide the national leadership necessary to position and secure pharmacy's place in the electronic data interchange (EDI) health encounter/claims processing and payment environment concerning all health care providers' professional services.
PSTAC is pharmacy’s clearinghouse on issues related to EDI claims transactions; it consists of the following seven national pharmacy organizations: the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists (IACP), the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), and the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).

PSTAC, which provides national leadership to support pharmacy providers within the electronic data interchange (EDI) environment related to health encounter/claims processing and payment, was responsible for obtaining the first pharmacist-specific, medication therapy management (MTM) CPT codes released on January 1, 2006. The AMA CPT Editorial Panel approved CPT codes to describe pharmacist services, but these codes were deemed as Temporary Category III codes. Category III are known as "experimental" or "temporary," which many payors in the marketplace do not pay for if it is in the Category III status.
We are now seeking a code request to change from a Category III to a Category I status. PSTAC is collecting this data to assist with its CPT application on codifying pharmacist services, specifically Medication Therapy Management Services (MTMS). If you are a pharmacist who has documented and/or billed for your professional services, it is very important to help us validate widespread delivery of these professional services. We are surveying to evaluate the use of the MTMS-specific CPT codes, as well as other forms/documentation you and health plans/payors are using to code for pharmacist services.

The deadline for completing this survey is November 15, 2006.
