NPI Resources
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated that the Secretary of Health and Human Services adopt a standard unique health identifier for health care providers. HIPAA-covered entities, such as providers completing electronic transactions, health care clearinghouses, and large health plans, must use only the NPI to identify covered health care providers in standard transactions by May 23, 2007.
Accreditation for Compounding Pharmacies
As a member of the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB), NCPA is committed to uniform accreditation standards for the compounding profession. PCAB will set tough, national standards that pharmacies will have to meet to obtain accreditation. The process will ensure that pharmacies from coast to coast have in place sound practices, processes, facilities, equipment and personnel to prepare compounded medications for their patients.
