Current Student Leaders

The 2008-2009 Student Council: The NCPA Student Executive Committee comprised of the NCPA Student Leadership Council (SLC) and the NCPA Student Regional Council (SRC) are pharmacy students elected by their peers to represent student chapters on NCPA’s policymaking steering committees and to spread the NCPA message of the rewards and challenges of independent community to students. The new 2008-2009 Student Council has been selected from various schools across the country.

NCPA Student Leadership Council (SLC): President, Jason Doss, Washington State University; Secretary, Christy Garmon, Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy; Kevin Florence, University of Georgia; Megan Jolley Milne, University of Utah College of Pharmacy; Emily Schulze, University of Washington; Charles Hartig, Drake University; Tyson Mullen, University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy. The Leadership Council is on the NCPA Steering Committee as student representatives.


Jason Doss, President, is a fourth year pharmacy student at Washington State University, Spokane, Washington. Prior to entering the Washington State University, Pharm.D. program, he received an undergraduate degree from WSU in general science. He currently serves as the Committee Chair for his NCPA chapter. He has spent his extra-curricular time in pharmacy school devoted to developing his leadership, business, and management skills. As a student member of NCPA, he has been involved in several projects that have helped him focus on entrepreneurship. He is the past student body president of the graduate and professional programs at WSU. Through his involvement in student government, he has served on numerous committees. Jason is excited to contribute to the outstanding team by bringing his own experiences and ideas to the table.


Christy Garmon, Secretary is a fourth year pharmacy student at Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy and a resident of Talladega, AL. Before attending Samford University Christy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. She is very active in various pharmacy organizations such as NCPA, APhA-ASP, PLS, Kappa PSI, and Alabama Pharmacy Association and has held various leaderships roles in all. In addition to serving on the student executive council, Christy also serves on the chair of the Student Academic for the Alabama Pharmacy Association. Through organizational work, Christy has organized numerous community outreach events. Christy's goal is to have a career in community pharmacy and to encourage students and pharmacists to become more active in professional pharmacy organizations.


Kevin Florence, is in his fourth year of the Pharm.D program at University of Georgia in Athens, GA. His interest in pharmacy has been developing for several years being fortunate enough to grow up in a small town, community pharmacy. His parents own and operate Medi-Thrift Pharmacy in LaFayette, Georgia, and both have been extremely active with the pharmacy profession. Kevin is a firm believer that the development and success of community pharmacies is dependent on a group effort from all its members. As being a pharmacy student at the University of Georgia, Kevin is involved NCPA, ASP, and is also on the Dean's student advisory council at UGA. He looks forward to being able to share his experiences and knowledge with all counterparts to insure the growth and to enhance the delivery of health care for all community pharmacies. In Athens, Kevin enjoys fly-fishing, surfing, travel, water sports, skiing and camping.


Charles Hartig is a fourth year pharmacy student at Drake University. He has experienced pharmacy and the leadership on a first and second hand basis. His father is an independent owner and his job as NCPA's summer intern (Summer 2006) has allowed him insight and opportunities into the profession of pharmacy. Charlie's goals for the future include finishing pharmacy school and pursuing a law degree. He would like to practice community pharmacy and work for a smaller chain or independent pharmacy because he feels it is easier to improve and change practices in a smaller setting. He would like to ultimately represent pharmacist and pharmacy organizations on a larger scale. Charlie currently serves as the president at the NCPA Drake Chapter and is also involved with several pharmacy school committees, student government, Kappa Psi and Sigma Phi Epsilon at Drake University.


Megan Jolley Milne is a fourth year pharmacy student at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. She is a former president of the NCPA student chapter at the University of Utah. Ever since she was fifteen years old she has worked at her family's pharmacy, Jolley's Compounding Pharmacy. She is excited to become a third generation Jolley Pharmacist. She enjoys being a part of the Student Executive Council for the National Community Pharmacists Association. Megan is involved with various organizations including NCPA, UPhA, ASP, and PCCA. Megan also served as the Senator representing the College of Pharmacy in the University of Utah Senate.


Tyson Mullen is in his fourth year at the University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy. Tyson is the past historian of his NCPA chapter and has been an active participant in chapter community service projects at local nursing homes. He is the president of his pharmacy class and has been initiated into Phi Lamdba Sigma Leadership Society in the KU School of Pharmacy. He was raised around independent pharmacy in a small rural community of approximately 1,700 people. His great-grandfather opened the first pharmacy in his community and it is Tyson's plan to return there after graduation. Tyson is involved with various organizations such as ASP, Phi Lamda Sigma and KPA and is very excited about helping complete the CMTM program for his community pharmacy. Tyson shows outstanding professionalism and knowledge when dealing directly with other professionals and patients, and looks forward to a career in independent pharmacy.


Emily Schulze is a fourth year pharmacy student at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She is very delighted to be a member of the NCPA student council and very pleased to work with other students and pharmacists in a greater capacity. Before attending the University of Washington, Emily received her Bachelors in Biology and Psychology from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and her Masters in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver. She is excited to learn more from NCPA about independent pharmacy ownership as well as the legislative issues that affect independent practice. Emily's career goal as a pharmacist encompasses a multitude of areas such as providing quality patient education, monitoring profiles to ensure optimum care, interacting with patients and their providers to provide continuity of care. Her personal plan to achieve this goal is by practicing in an independent setting in the community. She is looking forward to a future practice in independent pharmacy as an integral member of a healthcare team where she will serve patients with whom she interacts in a personal manner to provide the highest quality care.

Kal Dorji, president-elect is a 3rd year Pharm D. student at the USC School of Pharmacy in Los Angeles. He completed his undergraduate coursework at USC as a member of the Trojan Admission Pre-pharmacy (TAP) program. Since attending the USC School of Pharmacy he has been actively involved in many organizations on campus. In the past year he served as Vice President of the Local Service Fraternity Skull and Mortar, Treasurer of Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, California Pharmacy Assiocation (CPhA) Conference Delegate, and Vice President of his local NCPA chapter. Moving into the upcoming year he has honed in his involvements to NCPA Co-President and USC Student Body Alumni Representative. He has a strong passion for independent pharmacy that brewed from first hand interaction with independent pharmacists. As USC NCPA’s Vice President last year he was fortunate enough to meet many inspiring pharmacists who truly care about the patients and the community they serve. Kal aspires to one day own his own pharmacy and be a reliable healthcare resource for a small community of patients. He is extremely excited to have the opportunity to serve on the SEC with great hopes to improve student involvement with NCPA.


Danielle Bailey, Secretary is in her third year of the Pharm.D. program at The University of Texas at Austin. She has served as both president and historian of her NCPA Student Chapter. She was also awarded her chapter's Outstanding NCPA Member in her first year of pharmacy school. She has also been involved with APhA-ASP, UT Pharmacy Council, and the Texas Pharmacy Association. Before pharmacy school, Danielle worked in two small town independent pharmacies, and realized that working in this setting was something that she truly had a passion for. She has taken this passion to new levels by being involved with various community service projects and legislative projects in her school. She hopes to one day own a compounding and consulting pharmacy in a small town where previous access to health care has been limited. Danielle is very excited about serving as a member of the Student Executive Committee and hopes to continue to encourage students to pursue a future in independent pharmacy and legislative affairs.


Manpreet Chahal is a third year pharmacy student and a PhD candidate at Washington State University, Spokane, WA. Manpreet received a Bachelor of Science in Cell & Molecular Biology from University of Washington, Seattle, WA. He has served in many leadership positions, including past President of Graduate & Professional Student Association of WSU, Committee Chair for the WSU NCPA chapter, and is the incoming Vice President of Associated Students of Washington State University-Spokane campus. He has been involved with the NCPA Business Plan team at WSU and is the co-founder of Student Pharmacists for Political Advocacy Group at WSU. Manpreet is looking forward to working with pharmacy students in Region 7 to increase participation in the Wellness Challenge and Political Advocacy.


Regina Scott is a third year pharmacy student at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy. She is currently the president of the UNM NCPA Student Chapter, as well as a member of Kappa Psi. Regina is very proud to be the first representative from her school to serve NCPA at the national level. She completed her pre-pharmacy course work in her hometown, at the University of Nevada, Reno. Regina wanted to be involved in independent community practice long before starting pharmacy school. Today she is very determined to one day become a pharmacy owner. Regina's goals while on the NCPA Student Executive Committee include educating and exciting other pharmacy students about the possibilities in independent pharmacy as well as the need for political involvement. She would also like to encourage pharmacy owners to become more involved with students and more active in securing the future of their businesses through legislative involvement and building relationships with potential buyers. Regina currently works at an independent pharmacy, Burke's Drug, in Sparks, NV when she is home from school. She enjoys hobbies of collecting, including pharmacy antiques, making pottery, as well as spending time with her pets.


Cassandra (Cassie) Shields is a third year pharmacy student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Previously, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Currently, Cassie is an active student member in ASP-APhA as well as Kappa Epsilon, Phi Lambda Sigma, and Rho Chi. She is also the president of her NCPA chapter and is excited about the upcoming school year. She is determined to make changes in how students view independent pharmacy and is eager to show students how to become involved in legislative issues affecting pharmacy. She would also like to bring practicality to these programs for students to learn skills that can be applied to the pharmacy profession once they have graduated. When Cassie graduates, her goal is to open an independent pharmacy back home around Lindsborg and to some day become legislatively active at the state level.


Renee Tobey is a third year student at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to attending the College of Pharmacy she did two years undergraduate work at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She is the secretary of her NCPA chapter for the second term and hopes that this experience in the Student Regional Council will allow her to grow and improve the OU student chapter. Renee is the current College of Pharmacy Student Council President, a member of Rho Chi, Phi Lambda Sigma, Phi Delta Chi, SSHP and ASCP. She is actively involved in her church and just returned from a medical mission trip with the Christian Medical and Dental Association in Peru. She also enjoys volunteering at Health For Friends, a non-profit clinic in Norman, OK. Renee hopes to own a pharmacy and run a diabetes clinic in that pharmacy in order to help prevent and control diabetes.


Mary Ann Yam is a third year student at the University of California, San Francisco School of Pharmacy. Prior to entering the Pharm.D Program at UCSF, MaryAnne had completed her undergraduate course work at the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. She is the founding Treasurer of her NCPA student chapter, and has served on the APhA-ASP cabinet. MaryAnne is highly dedicated to helping the community. She has served as project coordinator for multiple community outreach projects: APhA-ASP Project Hypertension & Cholesterol, NCPA Project Wellness, and Partners in D (under APhA-ASP, CSHP and AMCP) Medicare Part D Project. MaryAnne is excited to be on the Student Executive Council, and she hopes to help her fellow colleagues discover all the opportunities that NCPA has to offer.
