Trenton Jenks Receives NCPA 2017 Prescription Drug Safety Award

by NCPA | Oct 16, 2017

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 16, 2017) Trenton Jenks, RPh, owner of the Prescription Pad Pharmacy in Fruitland, Idaho was named the winner of the National Community Pharmacists Association 2017 Prescription Drug Safety Award. Sponsored by Computer-Rx, the award recognizes pharmacists who have reached out in their communities to provide education on the benefits of the correct use of prescription drug products and the hazards associated with their misuse. Jenks received the award during the NCPA 2017 Annual Convention held Oct. 14-18.

"We are pleased to name Trenton Jenks the winner of the NCPA 2017 Prescription Drug Safety Award," said NCPA President DeAnn Mullins, Pharmacist, CDE, owner of Mullins Pharmacy, WeCare Wellness and the WeCare Diabetes Education Program in Lynn Haven, Fla. "His comprehensive approach to patient care is what the future of pharmacy looks like. Whether it's his collaborative work with other health care providers, utilizing medication adherence-driving programs, or his proper disposal of unused medications, Jenks is making a profound difference in his community."

Jenks obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Idaho State University in 2006. After six years in traditional retail pharmacy, he decided to pursue a clinical pharmacy position at a local hospice. Two years later, Jenks partnered with the hospice owners to purchase the Prescription Pad Pharmacy. His pharmacy has already been recognized for its work as one of three independent pharmacies in the nation to be nominated as the GNP Pharmacy of the Year in 2016.

Jenks's dedication to improving health outcomes for his patients comes from offering a wide variety of critical niche services. He monitors therapeutic outcomes through medication chart reviews, recommending alternative therapies for their desired effect, and eliminating medication-induced interactions and complications. He attends interdisciplinary team meetings, serving as a resource for staff and hospice patients, establishes drug therapy protocols, and educates on and facilitates the proper disposal of medications.

Jenks is a member of NCPA, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the pharmacist section of the NHPCO steering committee, and a regional leader for Western States Pharmacy Coalition. He also became a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist in 2015 while practicing in hospice.

"On behalf of Computer-Rx, we are proud to sponsor the NCPA 2017 Prescription Safety Award presented to Trenton Jenkins of the Prescription Pad Pharmacy," said ComputerRx President Lauren Warkentine. "As a pharmacy software company, we can appreciate the multiple platforms, including social media, Jenks uses to serve and better educate his patients. I personally admire his approach and think he is a great example for all community pharmacists to follow."
