PCORI study looks at acute respiratory tract infection treatment approaches

In the treatment of acute respiratory tract infections (ARTIs) in children, do clinical or patient-centered outcomes differ for broad- versus narrow-spectrum antibiotics? A multi-stakeholder research team at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia recently conducted the first large-scale study to answer this question. Funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), the study addressed previous evidence which demonstrated that the antibiotic prescribing practices of U.S. health care professionals are variable and often misaligned with evidenced-based guidelines.
